Description

In South Africa, the national budget determines how resources are allocated across provinces, municipalities, and public programmes. These decisions directly affect service delivery, economic participation, and the ability of communities to realise their socio-economic rights. The Indaba on Realising Socio-Economic Rights through Pro-Poor Human Rights Budgeting and the Equitable Share brings together policymakers, economists, regulators, and finance professionals to examine how South Africa’s fiscal framework can better support inclusive economic growth and accountable governance. Hosted by the Chartered Institute for Business Accountants (CIBA) in partnership with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), the event creates a national platform for dialogue on the constitutional, fiscal, and governance dimensions of South Africa’s budgeting system. Date: 24–25 March 2026
