Assets may be financed in a variety of means including but not limited to the following:
Term loans
Operating leases
Finance leases

The financing of assets may result in a disconnect between the accounting and tax treatment of assets, rental payments and interest recognition for example where finance leases are capitalised or IFRS 16 is applicable.
The correct income tax and VAT treatment is complex for both the borrower/lessee and the financier/lessor.
In the May 2024 Tax Happy Hour we will explore the Income Tax and VAT tax pitfalls and opportunities arising from asset finance deals. We will also consider the correct deferred tax treatment of adjustments relating to asset finance deals.
