A practical, plain-language programme in using AI across South African accounting and finance, from first principles to leading it at board level.

About this course

The AI Readiness Initiative for Accountants is CIBA’s complete AI programme for the profession, built for South African conditions. It runs across three levels: foundations for every practitioner, practical application across accounting workflows, and strategy and governance for finance leaders. SARS is expanding its own AI-driven verification, POPIA places the responsibility for client data on your firm, and clients now expect their accountant to use these tools well. The programme meets all three head on.

Whether you have never opened an AI tool or you are a CFO setting your organisation’s AI position, the programme builds from first principles and gives you frameworks, prompts and templates you can apply the same week. Every lesson ends with an interactive knowledge check.

Who should use this course

  •   Bookkeepers and accounting technicians who want to use AI safely in daily work.
  •   Practitioners in public practice serving SME and tax clients.
  •   Accountants in commerce preparing statements, management accounts and reviews.
  •   Financial managers and CFOs setting AI strategy and governance.
  •   Anyone in a South African finance role, employed or independent, regardless of professional body.

What you will be able to do

  •   Explain in plain English what AI can and cannot do, and where the professional still carries the liability.
  •   Prompt AI well using the CIBA C-R-I-S-P method, and check its output against the SARS-Defensibility Standard.
  •   Use AI across real workflows: financial statements, VAT and tax, management accounts, client communication, reviews and marketing.
  •   Validate AI-assisted financial statements with the CIBA TRACE Standard.
  •   Draft your firm’s AI policy and keep client data compliant under POPIA.
  •   Lead AI adoption with the CIBA LEAD Standard: a board-ready AI Leadership Plan, a governance framework and a 90-day activation plan.
Stop wondering whether AI belongs in your practice. Become the professional who uses it well and can prove it.

What is inside

  •   Eighteen lessons across three levels, from foundations to finance leadership.
  •   An interactive knowledge check in every lesson: choose an answer and see at once whether it is right, and why.
  •   Built on South African rules throughout: SARS, POPIA, the Companies Act, IFRS for SMEs and the CIBA Code.
  •   Three CIBA signature methods you will actually use: C-R-I-S-P prompting, the SARS-Defensibility and TRACE Standards, and the LEAD Standard for leaders.
  •   Worked examples, tested prompts and templates you can apply to live client work.
  •   Self-paced and online, around 36 hours, with a single completion certificate for the whole programme.
